This is not an npm workspace monorepo — each top-level project manages its own dependencies independently. No root package.json ties them together.
| Directory | What it is |
|---|---|
frontend/ |
The React + TypeScript + Vite portal — the actual editor UI. Builds standalone (browser app) and as a VS Code webview bundle. |
extension/ |
The VS Code extension (package id c4archtect). Hosts frontend/’s build inside a webview; adds Command Palette commands, the Copilot chat participant, and the embedded MCP server. |
backend/ |
An optional FastAPI service powering the natural-language “Generate” button in the AI Chat panel. Without it running, the frontend falls back to a mock response. |
native-scanner/ |
A separate Node/TypeScript package — a workspace-aware technology adapter scanner used for project architecture generation/inference. |
docs/ |
This documentation site (MkDocs + Material). |
internal-docs/ |
Internal implementation notes, dated plans/specs, and bug/feature tracking — not published, not part of docs_dir. |
samples/ |
Example .dsl files. |
archtect-static-website/ |
A separate marketing/landing site, distinct from this documentation. |
How frontend and extension relate
Section titled “How frontend and extension relate”extension/ doesn’t reimplement the editor — it builds frontend/ with a dedicated Vite config (vite.config_extension.ts) and copies the output into extension/media/, then serves that into a VS Code webview. See Webview Architecture.
